Keen readers might remember Swedish furious punk outfit Repeat. Writing about ‘Reasons’ in summer 2024, we proudly declared it as “balancing intensity with a melodic charm that’s hard to ignore.” While that was a softer, slow-moving effort, Repeat are now back fiercer than ever, unveiling their latest offering ‘Celebrate’. Signalling an upcoming EP to be released in September, the track threads once again into fast-paced, furious and hard-hitting punk territories; just what we would expect from the Swedish group.
Following up on a string of European live shows and two well-received albums, ‘Celebrate’ doubles down on Repeat’s main strengths. From the chaotic and pungent guitar tones, to the euphoric, ever-rolling drum parts, to the screamy, vivid vocals, somehow also clear and uplifting. It’s a wonderful formula, one that showcases once again how tight and striking the band can be. Despite all this energy, ‘Celebrate’ still maintains a melodic outlook, a quality that makes it digestible for a wide audience.
Recorded by Joakim Lindberg at Studio Sickan in Malmö, the single is a definite win. Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Repeat explains: “We wanted to create something that feels bigger and more melodic without losing the energy. We experimented with new recording techniques, built the songs differently, but it still feels one hundred per cent like Repeat. ‘Celebrate’ set the tone for the entire EP.”
