The quintessential singer-songwriter, Kete Bowers’ artistic formula is perhaps simple, yet very effective and evocative. Take ‘BlackWater’, his latest effort. A haunting, melancholic piece, the record finds its cathartic quality through a wholesome, minimal acoustic guitar and Bowers’ earthy, gloomy and prophetic vocals, resonating through the track and capturing the listeners’ attention from the first note.
Bowers is “in the process of writing songs for a new album…”, a promise that we’ll hold him up to. The keen reader might remember some of our past forays into the Liverpool-based creative’s musical universe. Well, nothing has changed since then, with Bowers expanding the gut-wrenching songwriting personality he’s been known for around the UK.
Active for the past two decades and boasting two wonderful albums under his belt – 2010’s ‘Road’ and 2019’s ‘Paper Ships’ – Kete Bowers is bubbling away on new material for a third LP. Judging by the long pause between previous records, there’s likely no rush. After all, we can all default to the project’s older material, always worth it and relatable.
