YEARN Unleashes Cathartic Album ‘SHAPESHIFTER’

We have already covered YEARN earlier this year, and we were at the time rather impressed with how deep and nuanced the project was. Celebrating ‘Shapeshifter’, we described the track as “incredibly hypnotising and expansive, a nugget of eclecticism and elegance in an overly gloomy reality.” We stand by our words, as we discover a fuller picture of what YEARN stands for. ‘SHAPESHIFTER’ (the album) is out now, with its multiple layers of meaning and cathartic energy.

Born out of the many vivid dreams visiting the Seattle-based songstress at night, ‘SHAPESHIFTER’ follows an obscure figure tied with Tahar’s (the human behind the project) own consciousness and deepest feelings of yearning, sparking a journey of renewal and transformation that poses the basis for the entire project. You see, YEARN is the product of such deep reflections and otherworldly experiences, both lyrical and at a sonic level.

That said, it’s also obvious how ‘SHAPESHIFTER’ might benefit from Tahar’s heightened musicianship. Boasting an eclectic array of influences, including folk, jazz, indie and rock tones, the record bends the rules of musical knowledge, simply building the perfect aural panorama for YEARN’s nuanced, vibrant ethos. Speaking more in detail about the inspiration behind the album, we are told: “These dreams, and the songs that came from them, form something of an origin story, the first steps on a path of transformation and self-actualisation.”
