YEARN Debuts with Eclectic Cut ‘Shapeshifter’

Is this what sonic alchemy sounds like? ‘Shapeshifter’ feels incredibly hypnotising and expansive, a nugget of eclecticism and elegance in an overly gloomy reality. The keen listener will certainly catch the not-so-hidden jazz tinges, as well as an understated indie euphoria that wears playful aural clothes. There’s no point in framing the record into a specific label. Simply, it’s a physical representation of Lily Minke Tahar’s creative, sonically-rich mind.

A gifted songwriter, producer and musician, the Seattle-based wizardess is proudly sparking a new era in her kaleidoscopic artistry, going by the moniker YEARN and teaming up with Doe Records on her forthcoming album ‘Shapeshifter’. The title track acts as a debut effort, opening the curtains on the project’s incredible musicianship. Combining lo-fi extravaganza with soulful character and carefree indie goodness, the record creates a fictional universe where we finally feel at home; a place where Tahar’s unfiltered art is reaching its best-ever form.

Speaking about the lyricism behind ‘Shapeshifter’, YEARN explains: “It formed in a little over a week, and took inspiration from Italo Calvino’s ‘Cosmicomics’.” Overall, the record is rather impressive and well-crafted, and we look forward to learn more about YEARN’s upcoming album.
