Warburton Writes About Resilience and Understanding in ‘Hurricane’

Gentle and buoyant, ‘Hurricane’ feels like a perfect match for our troubled, contemporary times. Everyone seems to have lost patience and kindness towards each other, whether in a romantic affair or not. Well, Warburton has observed that too, penning ‘Hurricane’ as a call to stick together, even in the face of adversities. In other words, the Canadian troubadour is looking for resilience, and he’s willing to put in the work in order to make relationships last. It’s certainly a fresh message nowadays, in an era where extreme independence and self-interest seem to have taken over our collective identities.

Such meaningful lyricism is well paired with a delicate and poignant indie folk arrangement. ‘Hurricane’ moves slowly among a sea of cinematic textures, glimmering guitars and feathery drums. Warburton’s understated, earthy vocals are delivered smoothly, never overpowering the underlying instrumental. Such a nuanced and detailed aural concoction makes for a cathartic and memorable listening experience, a moment of stillness and rest in an otherwise busy reality.

Julie Meunier joins the fun on backing vocals, while Jon Savard takes care of production duties. Going by the name Nathan Mitchell by day, Toronto-based Warburton seems to have finally landed on a striking, relevant artistic formula, a slice of committed artistry that anticipated the project’s upcoming album, expected later this summer.
