The Kobras Return with Kaleidoscopic Gem ‘Stardust’

The last we heard of them was July 2022, when the kaleidoscopic and fuzzy London-based outfit was sharing the dazzling and quirky gem ‘Sweaty Kitchen’. Now, after a short hiatus spent writing and planning a glorious comeback, The Kobras return with what we can only define as one of their more nuanced offerings to date, an immersive journey in the group’s gooey and hypnotising psych and indie stylings, oscillating between grit, punch and lenient, smooth soundscapes.

That’s our take on ‘Stardust’ – we are particularly keen on it, as you might have picked up from the rather excited vibe this piece lets transpire! How could we not be? Active since 2020, The Kobras have been a best-kept-secret for far too long, and we think it’s time they gain a larger audience. They taste and feel like the future. Slightly uncertain, potentially troubling, but always fresh and unexpected.

Formed by talents Dessy Baeva (vocals), Harry Thacker (guitar) and Chloe Tayali (bass), The Kobras also give ‘Stardust’ a stunning music video, courtesy of director and editor Kat Terek. Describing the concept behind the record, the band explains: “The song is a mantra for unity: ‘All we can do is – hold on to one another!’. We love some good repetitive lyrics to put you straight in that trans state where you can follow the groove, sync it with the rhythm of your heart and lose yourself in the sexy roar of the guitar. We want this track to be a reminder that regardless of our differences we are all made of the same cosmic components and all we really have is each other.”
