At first sight, The Dialtones might look like your average small band. Yet, at a deeper look, one quickly realizes the amount of sheer talent stemming from such a rich and expansive lineup. Guided by the imaginative mind and the nuanced musicianship of singer and frontwoman Lauren Gurgiolo, the project also includes musicians from the esteemed bands Okkervil River, White Denim, The Polyphonic Spree, The Heartless Bastards, and the Golden Dawn Arkestra.
After a life-changing event caused Gurgiolo to reset her life and change her expectations, music provided a fitting relief, helping her work through a new reality and develop a newer, stronger consciousness. ‘Love To Live’ is the latest effort to emerge from such a meaningful process, showcasing The Dialtones’ eclectic sonic livery and intricate arrangements. Exploring art-rock, progressive formulas and boundary-pushing solutions, ‘Love To Live’ is as hypnotising as it is quirky, with Gurgiolo’s soulful and introspective vocals functioning as its North Star.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Lauren explains: “‘Love to Live’ is an old song that was never officially released, but it became my mantra after my episode. Stripped of everything – career, relationships, identity, and security – initially, I felt like I had lost all the progress I had made over the last 20 years. However, as I navigated through the abyss, I came to realize that this was not entirely true. I still possessed the approach to life and living that I had cultivated.”
