The keen reader will be aware of the sheer quantity of rock and indie bands that Britain has to offer. It’s rather hard to cut through the noise, and even harder to land on an artistic formula that’s different and unique. Well, The Corvids seems to have found a fitting answer to both problems, emerging from Leeds with a striking, fierce sound that’s also evocative and reflective. ‘When Will We Break?’ is the perfect example of that.
The project’s third single to date, ‘When Will We Break?’ offers a prominent look into The Corvids’ constant push-and-pull between heartwarming, nostalgic lyricism and their fiery, energetic instrumental flair. The listening experience is rewarding and cathartic: we got lost multiple times in the song’s chorus, incredibly anthemic yet also melancholic and meaningful. It all tells us about the group’s maturity, which for such a young band is certainly impressive.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, the Leeds-based creatives explain: “a powerful anthem of liberation and growth, capturing the emotional journey of breaking free from the past and embracing the inevitability of change.” The Corvids are Dylan Fairburn (vocals and rhythm guitar), Bailey Walker (bass), Stanley Coates (lead guitar), and Bre’an Howie (drums).
