Caitty: “I love how music can bring people together”

Often, music provides a welcome respite from a dark reality or the opportunity to heal from past traumatic experiences. Take, for instance, Caitty’s ‘Alone’; written from a very personal perspective, the song explores memories so painful that she wouldn’t even be keen to share them. Yet, using songwriting as a cathartic tool, she’s still able to channel her nuanced, poignant artistry towards a wonderfully elegant and luscious piece of music.

Hailing from Australia, Caitty enjoys a relatable, down-to-earth pop character, one that’s quickly obvious in ‘Alone’. Introduced by heartwarming piano tones and gentle textures, the single rises in intensity as the song goes on, seemingly exploring a past breakup.

Intrigued by the record and its author, we caught up with Caitty to learn more about her artistry and future goals… Interview below!

Hey Caitty, how is it going? Thanks for chatting with us! I have dug through your bio, and it’s clear that music is almost a cathartic tool for you, a way to process emotions and find a sustainable path forward. On this theme, what does music mean to you?

Thanks for taking the time with me. Music means a lot to me; it’s a way for me to express my emotions and connect with others. It can lift my spirits when I’m feeling down or help me relax. Certain songs bring back memories and remind me of moments in my life. I love how music can bring people together, whether at concerts or just sharing favourite tracks. It’s an essential part of my life, and I can always find a song that resonates with how I’m feeling.

I am curious about your music education; did you undertake any studies in the past? Where and when did you learn how to sing?

I didn’t. Not to do with music. I was often found on stage at school singing or writing lyrics in my notebook. I lost my confidence when I became an adult, and it’s really only in the last year that I have got back into and believed in myself. My partner has a lot to do with that. He is the most supportive fan I have.

If you had the opportunity to pick any artists in the world for a collaboration, who would be your first choice? (and second choice, perhaps?)

Luke Combs. 100%. I think he is an amazing artist. I love his storytelling in his music. He’s very talented.

You recently released an incredibly poignant and meaningful effort, ‘Alone’. You mention that the story behind it is rather painful, and I am aware you’d like not to share more than that. Is there any chance you can tell us more?

Alone is, unfortunately, a true story. A very dark time in my life. But I think everyone has been there at some point. It’s that raw, ugly aftermath of a breakup.

Can you take into the writing and production process behind the single? How did ‘Alone’ come about?

Alone was recorded and produced in my home studio. I love to write and sing. Production doesn’t come naturally, but I am enjoying learning more with every release.

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

I prefer writing music alone because it allows me to fully explore my creative thoughts without any distractions. When I’m by myself, I can be completely honest and vulnerable with my feelings, which often leads to more authentic and meaningful lyrics. It also gives me the freedom to experiment with different ideas and sounds at my own pace, without the pressure of someone else’s expectations. Writing alone feels like a personal journey where I can truly connect with my music and express myself freely.

Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?

Artistically, the last two years have brought a mix of challenges and growth. One significant challenge has been navigating periods of creative block, where inspiration felt elusive, often due to external stressors or uncertainty. I also struggle with self-confidence, and that is something that I am working on every day.

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

I recently released an EP that has a very different sound. Very pop and dark. And I am currently working on another EP that is country-focused, which I am extremely excited about. I love to experiment with different sounds and try to find where I fit in the music market.
