As far as R&B goes, we are fully sold on Tamara Dos Santos’ blissful, evocative flair. Boasting incredibly buoyant vocals and introspective songwriting, the London-based creative has gotten comfortable with looking inward, embracing vulnerability and fragility in a world that’s ever rougher and apathetic. Yet, Dos Santos has not forgotten about her independence and pride – simply, she moves slowly, with purpose, striving for personal glory. ‘Do it’ is the perfect evidence of that.
Delving into hesitations and doubts around a new relationship, Tamara seeks to motivate the listeners to take care of themselves and proceed with care, all without running away from romance. As she explains: “I want to encourage people to acknowledge and embrace the natural hesitation that comes with vulnerability – it’s okay to proceed slowly when the stakes of the heart are high.”
Wrapped into a playful, uplifting R&B production (courtesy of Sunsetdrver), ‘Do it’ is the ultimate R&B anthem, also sharing a certain dreamy quality, one that’s very welcome. We’d just like to escape, losing ourselves in the music – Tamara Dos Santos makes it possible. Speaking about some of her biggest influences, she continues: “This particular song was inspired by Leon Thomas’ ‘Crash & Burn’ and also Mary J Blige ‘Here with Me’”.
