Qualm Boocha Debut with Self-Titled, Psychedelic Rock’n’Roll Trip

Trent-Jean’s latest creative endeavour, Qualm Boocha is a project as euphoric, fiery and libertine as it could be. Boasting roaring guitars and veiled psychedelia, the Aussie band met through common friends and a local studio, with head honcho Trent-Jean teaming up with fellow musicians Robbie Corbet, Emily Rose Burnside, and Cain Munns. The sonic formula so far is quite unique, as their self-titled debut charmingly showcases.

Faced with roaring guitars, spacious vocals and a plethora of instrumental noises and textures, the listening experience oscillates between uplifting rock’n’roll and psychedelic, art-infused rock, yet still maintaining a certain catchiness, especially when it comes to Trent Jean’s relatable lyricism. His vocals are sharp and striking as always, here further enhanced by Burnside’s perfect harmonies.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Qualm Boocha and Trent-Jean explain: “I was caught in a love song/heartbreak ballad whirlwind. A close friend of mine told me that once I get off my cruise ship contract at the time I was on, to have fun and write a ‘fun’ song. The lyrics were written and complete while getting a tattoo on my shoulder of a red ink Icarus wing. I refer to that tattoo in the lyrics ‘won’t fear the sun, red ink Icarus on me’. The only lines not completed in that tattoo session were the chorus, which I created in the shower the day prior.”
