Sungaze Shares Latest Album ‘I’m No Longer Afraid of Heights’

‘I’m No Longer Afraid of Heights’ is the perfect album to escape our dark, dystopian times. It’s like entering a blissful yet brooding alternative universe, a place where introverts will likely feel at home.

‘I’m No Longer Afraid of Heights’ is the working example of what happens when a band mixes Midwest Emo and Shoegaze. The result? An absolute feverish triumph, a forgotten dream packed with a heavy hypnotic charge and deep-rooted melancholia. It’s the perfect album to escape our dark, dystopian times; it’s like entering a blissful yet brooding alternative universe, a place where introverts will likely feel at home, where nostalgia is a very frequent emotion.

Behind such a potent album, we find Cincinnati-based outfit Sungaze, here showcasing all of their musical and artistic prowess. They are quite an expansive bunch, with six members and three guitars busy creating a dense sonic soundscape, one that perfectly fits Ivory Snow’s luscious, ethereal vocals. Marking the group’s fourth studio album to date, the record also shines a light on the immaterial, visionary songwriting of core members Snow and Ian Hilvert.

Who is this record for? Sungaze are rather clear about that: “for people who feel deeply, don’t always fit, and are open to finding beauty in unexpected places.” ‘I’m No Longer Afraid of Heights’ is exactly that, a fleeting moment of peace and escapism in an otherwise heavy and decadent reality. For us at Mesmerised, it’s a perfect match, one that leaves us deeply in awe of Sungaze.
