‘Those Who Do Not Jump Will Never Fly’ marks the fierce return of North Carolina-based outfit Time Parade, here showcasing their nuanced, measured aural character. Threading the fine line between indie, pop, and rock, the American band appears to have found a workable path forward, following up on their 2023 EP ‘At The Lighthouse’. In truth, that EP was originally released under the moniker Olde Guard, originally a solo outfit by Chris Lonon.

Reaching out to like-minded musicians to perform live, Lonon then assembled what has now become Time Parade, a change that reflects the collective commitment behind the project. ‘Those Who Do Not Jump Will Never Fly’ takes a cue from the past, yet it looks ahead with a more precise sonic direction. There are tons of catchy and melancholic lyrics in it, with piano and guitars co-existing and never overpowering each other. In fact, it’s the sort of record that would fit a wide audience.

Time Parade’s storytelling is here delivered with a highly thematic flair, infusing every track with a distinct literature-driven character. As such, the EP unfolds with a certain cinematic elegance, constantly packed with introspection and anthemic flair. As we are told: “The songs are for the most part written thematically from the point of view of favourite characters from classic literature, i.e. Poor Anselmo is written from the point of view of the character Robert Jordan musing on Anselmo from Hemingway’s For Whom The Bell Tolls.”
