‘Carry On’ is the perfect match for a publication that calls itself Mesmerized. Admittedly, we adore anything that aids introspection and escapism; hazy, dreamy and cathartic are all adjectives we thrive on. In that sense, ‘Carry On’ fits the bill, with lush guitar-powered textures that feel expansive and limitless, plus evocative and anthemic songwriting to top it all off. Soundtrack Gospel is the talented human behind it, now revealing an important piece of a puzzle that will become another EP later this year.
Known by day as Jack Gee, Soundtrack Gospel hails from London, UK, with a rather nostalgic flair. Lover of analogue gear and warm distortions, Gee is often seen using unintentional strategies when writing music. For instance, ‘Carry On’ was captured on an old AKAI DPS16 multitrack recorder, a feature that gives the project an obscure and mystic artisanal allure. The single appears to benefit from such a process, with the final mix sounding wholesome and vibrant, and Jack’s vocals floating within it.
Delving deeper into the record, Soundtrack Gospel explains: “I wrote ‘Carry On’ on a writing retreat in Wales back in March, demoing it initially on cassette. The original version was a slower idea with an extended intro. All the synth-style sounds were created by running a guitar through a chain of modulation and effects, which was a really fun part of the process.”
