We are not going to lie, listening to ‘Lights Out’ sort of hyped us up. How can you resist such a slick, elegant and catchy tune? Moving with the most hazy and luscious disco flair, the record benefits from Dean Griffin‘s musical talent, unveiling a slice of hypnotising pop goodness that’s nostalgic yet also contemporary. We’d even define it as timeless: it doesn’t feel too derivative at all, yet it’s familiar. Laced with 80s-inspired tones and a relentless bassline, ‘Lights Out’ also delivers mellow, relatable melodies, quite on the R&B side.
Hailing from Southern California, Griffin has made a habit of crafting wonderful records; having built a sizeable audience actively supporting the project, it’s clear that he’s on a rising path. It’s understandable, given how good his music has been so far. To be clear, Dean is not reinventing the wheel – simply, he manages to deliver well-crafted, vibrant singles, further enriched by his naturally sweet and expressive vocals. It’s a recipe that cannot fail, and it won’t.
‘Lights Out’ was produced by Griffin himself, alongside additional sparks from Joseph Guadiana. Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, the American songwriter explains: “‘Lights Out’ is that moment when everything else fades and it’s just you and the other person. Just real and unfiltered. I wanted to capture that mix of desire and discovery, where love feels different once the lights are off. It’s intimate, while still having some groove to it.”
