Liminal, soft-spoken and rather haunting, ‘Into Dust (Bedroom Mix)’ is quite a difficult record to frame into a pre-existing label. You see, it’s highly peculiar, moving at a slow, abstract pace among a sea of cinematic textures and evocative harmonies. The final result translates into a highly hypnotising piece, a slice of gentle poignancy and elegant vocals in an over-complexed and gloomy reality. Sebastian Bonner is the talented creative behind such a masterpiece.
Hailing from London, UK, Bonner finally got around to releasing the track, originally written in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. The record does a good job of absorbing all of the uncertainty and vulnerability that those months instilled in all of us. Sebastian felt particularly compelled to reflect on the fragility of life through a biblical framework, something that at the time must have appeared incredibly meaningful.
It still is today, with ‘Into Dust (Bedroom Mix)’ reminding us all about the fleeting nature of human existence, and its small stature compared to the overarching divine energy all around us. As Bonner explains: “This piece is an exploration into the ideas of human fragility set against God’s divine majesty. It is a worshipful recognition that whilst our life is flawed and fleeting as vapours and shadows, we are still graciously remembered.”
