We have to be honest; we nearly lost ourselves in AVARA’s aural goodness. Packed with soulful eclecticism and ethereal vocals, the Swiss songwriter’s visionary artistry is highly hypnotising, with a lush blend of laidback electronica and sultry instrumental elements. ‘don’t you wait’ is the perfect example of that. AVARA’s latest effort, the single builds on the success of last summer’s hit ‘lose my mind’, a visionary effort that gained her over 300k streams on Spotify alone.
Gearing up for a wonderful future, AVARA seems to be reaching for the sky, and partly, she achieves that goal. With an angelic, elegant and almost soothing sonic character, ‘don’t you wait’ oscillates between its groovy, afrobeat-flavoured rhythms and a precious concoction of liminal synths, smooth chords and an anthemic sax solo, a feature that’s a joy to listen to. AVARA’s malleable, pop-driven vocals complete a recipe that’s already over performing; we wish the track would never end, but it does – good thing we can always replay it.
‘don’t you wait’ is the perfect offering for the approaching summer period; uplifting, bittersweet and slightly euphoric, the record will pair well with a sunset-laden DJ set on a rooftop or a late afterparty after an intense night out. Speaking about the record’s unique artwork, AVARA explains: “It was created in Amsterdam, featuring orange flowers – a visual metaphor for love, longing, and the lyrics’ blooming emotional core.”
