Romain Gutsy Shares Folk-Jazz Record ‘Lany’

Not a new face on the blog, Romain Gutsy has long championed an eclectic take on folk and Americana. Writing about his past single ‘If You Don’t Mind’ not long ago, we proudly declared: “his signature charming banjo will be forever stuck in our memory, together with authentic and honest lyricism.” Now, the French talent returns with a more grounded offering, the folk-jazz-flavoured gem ‘Lany’. As always, long-time collaborator Marc Bentel is firmly at production duties.

Echoing the elegant golden era of the 50s and the raucous storytelling of the 70s, ‘Lany’ presents itself as a love song with a twist of humour, a statement of surrender to a love spell. The lyrics express the feeling of being in love and the inability to resist it. As Romain himself explains using the line “I know I’m done”, the song highlights the acceptance of being ‘magically enchanted’ without seeing a way out of it.

Romain’s warm, nuanced and fuzzy vocals are the perfect match for the vintage production so carefully crafted by Bentel. The sonic wizard wraps the entire song with an organic, inviting vibe that makes the listener feel almost nostalgic. A wonderful return from Romain Gutsy, showcasing once again his class and artistic fervour.
