Remain Blank Return with Punchy Double Single ‘The Kitchen Floor’

We first met Remain Blank in 2024, writing about their striking debut effort ‘Plastic Hooligans’. The group instantly felt merciless and striking, boasting a typically British take on indie rock and alt-infused influences. That made for a rapturous, fierce character and charming, unapologetic vocals that were also hyper-hypnotic and explosive. Since then, they released a follow-up effort, ‘Falling(Down)’ and then took a relatively long break. Until now…

‘The Kitchen Floor’ marks Remain Blank’s comeback record, a hard-hitting double single that showcases the artistic growth and aural transformation endured by the Bolton-based outfit. Don’t get us wrong: ‘The Kitchen Floor’ still abides by the group’s unique style, yet their formula seems to have been refined and strengthened, so much so that the listening experience is both chaotic and pensive, especially in ‘Kitchen Floor’.

Frontman Alex Lennon Heywood appears to delve into a more spoken word-esque lyrical delivery, something that greatly enriches Remain Blank’s overall relatability. ‘The Second Time’ is a touch smoother, yet still built on the same foundations. Delving deeper into ‘Kitchen Floor’, Remain Blank explain: “It’s probably the quickest we’ve written a song, I think. Alex showed us the lyrics he’d written, completely ironically, in his free time, and we just thought there was something special about it and decided to roll with it. The song came together in about 5 minutes flat, and it’s become a solid staple of our live set ever since.”
