The keen reader will certainly remember British outfit PILOTS. Writing about their single ‘Leave Someone’ a few weeks back, we proudly declared it “a slice of rowdy, anthemic alt-rock goodness with relatable lyricism and fuzzy guitar tones”. We stand by our words: the Surrey-based outfit has steadily transformed itself into an alt-rock powerhouse, with an expansive, exuberant sound that draws from catchy Britpop as much as it does from rebellious punk flair.
‘Eyes On The Horizon’ is PILOTS’ latest album, a striking and substantial nugget of rock charisma and anthemic lyricism. At first listen, our overall takeaway is heavily focused on the quality of their songwriting. Penning relatable pieces with a great deal of potent melodies and catchy choruses, the English creatives have crafted an album that will easily hypnotise a large audience.
The general aural formula is instead a tad more conservative, echoing late 90s and early 2000s references. The listening experience is rather intense, with uplifting grooves and sharp distortions carrying PILOTS’ musical ethos with full commitment and unmatched fierceness. Having just performed an album launch show at The Water Rats in London, the group is now gearing up for a successful year – looking forward to witnessing how things develop.
