A longstanding figure in the Canadian music scene, Norine Braun has hypnotised audiences since the 90s, thanks to a luscious, elegant vocal tone and a deeply eclectic character. She’s not seemingly done yet, with ‘Just One Night’ marking her return to the international scene. An Americana-tinged soulful jewel, the record was crafted during one of Steve Dawson’s Henhouse Pop-up Sessions, a unique creative challenge where artists are invited to record a full track in just one hour with an all-star band.
The pressure was on: drawing from a wealth of performing experience and wonderful artistry, Braun penned a lovable gem, a nostalgic, country-flavoured piece that’s a joy to listen to. The track is also enriched by the high-level musicianship of Steve Dawson (guitars, pedal steel, bandleader), Darryl Havers (keyboards), Geoff Hicks (drums), Jeremy Holmes (bass), and Alice Fraser (harmony vocals). Norine provides words and music, guiding the entire ensemble with charisma and energy.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Braun explains: “It captures the bittersweet beauty of fleeting moments, emotional truths and the transformative power of love and dreams. What if forever was only one night?”. Another impressive effort by the Vancouver-based songstress; we never really get tired of her sublime voice.
