Nishy Shares Luscious and Hypnotising EP ‘Memories From A Vinyl’

There’s a strong intimate quality in Nishy’s latest effort. A 5-track EP, ‘Memories From A Vinyl’ is an introspective, soothing and transformative sonic journey, the kind of record that’s able to instantly kidnap the listeners’ attention and take them to an alternative universe, a dimension made up of ethereal reverbs, vocal sampling, laidback singing and chillout vibes. Take ‘Can’t Sleep’, for instance; a mellow gem, its consistency is rather hard to describe. Long atmospheres, tiny beats and bold vocals, an absolutely wonderful musical formula.

‘MMT’ follows in the same footsteps, and it’s pretty glorious: luscious spoken words and sleazy tones, the perfect framework for the French creative’s soulful and evocative vocals. Overall, as the EP title declares, there’s a strong vinyl-like feeling, echoed in a gooey lo-fi sound and noises/hum recordings. ‘Phase’ and ‘I’m Ready’ follow the same script, with the former ending in orchestral euphoria and the latter pursuing a more synth-pop aesthetic.

It’s a great EP! Very peculiar and authentic, signalling the flourishing artistic imagination of a young talent on the rise. Championing pop, RnB and lo-fi elements, Nishy manages to deliver a record that feels light, yet intense, a fitting contrast with her challenging personal experience. Indeed, she suffered a noise trauma just before recording, putting her hearing in jeopardy. She has thankfully recovered – and we are now able to appreciate her music more than ever.
