Aldís Fjóla Unveils Eclectic Rock EP ‘Pipedreams’

If we had to define Aldís Fjóla, we’d say she’s part of the nordic rock charge, a group of talented and fierce distortion lovers keeping the genre alive. There must be something connecting cold territories and rock’n’roll, don’t you think? Perhaps is a way to keep the energy and the vibes up during the long winters. Anyway, I digress – if organic, punchy and exuberant tones are your thing, Aldís Fjóla is a project you should get to know. The Icelandic star is back on the international scene with a fantastic EP, ‘Pipedreams’. Stylistically, the record is inspired by the grunge rock era of the 90s, channelling all the retro nostalgia championed by Fjóla.

Introduced by ‘Wasted’, the EP makes its way into our hearts. It does so by delivering fuzzy sonic matter, punchy drums and an inherently emotional outlook, always keeping it friendly and relatable. ‘Burn’ delves into alt-rock territories, featuring a particularly anthemic chorus that greatly showcases Fjóla’s powerful and evocative vocals.

‘Rearview Mirror’ is decisively more haunting and dark, exploring the lyrical idea of running away from the past and escaping uncomfortable situations. Title track ‘Pipedreams’ is the ultimate mellow offering, switching guitars for orchestral strings. In it, we get a glimpse of the project’s rich eclecticism. ‘Crossfire’ continues on the same vibes, keeping a leash on the furious rock charge. Which does indeed return in the last track, an Icelandic language version of ‘Burn’.
