MatAre Unveils Brooding New Wave Cut ‘Dissolution’

Eagerly productive, we suspect that music-making functions as a cathartic release of sorts for MatAre. ‘Dissolution’ is the next piece of his new wave puzzle.

Well, that didn’t take long! Following up on his EP ‘Brevity’, released back in February, Atlanta new wave troubadour MatAre has now returned with yet again new music. ‘Dissolution’ perfectly illustrates the fertile creative mind of the American artist, always willing to write about relatable and emotional themes, as well as painful episodes. In a way, we suspect that music-making functions as a cathartic release of sorts for him, and we’d argue that’s the best use of free will. After all, artistic expression makes the human experience better.

Anyway, getting back to the new single, we can attest that ‘Dissolution’ is classic MatAre goodness. Kinetic and intense, slightly gloomy, the track ventures into new wave and post-punk with nostalgic restraint, with a fierce drum groove and icy guitar riffs leaving ample space for MatAre’s dark and anthemic vocals. South African drummer Glenn Welman lends his expertise to the project’s cause on this occasion.

As is often the case with MatAre, his vibrant and moody music hides a meaningful lyrical ethos, often drawn from personal experience and nuanced introspection. As we are told: “‘Dissolution’ explores the breakdown of something that once felt stable, whether that’s a relationship, a belief, or a sense of self. Instead of a dramatic collapse, the song focuses on the slower, more subtle unravelling that happens over time. It was written during a period of reflection where I found myself thinking about how things don’t always end with clarity, they often just fade, shift, and lose their shape”.
