Lonehead Returns with Nostalgic New Wave Jewel ‘Coming Alive’

If back in the day (or even in the present) you used to bop your head to the likes of The Church or Echo & The Bunnymen, then you’ll be eager to discover Lonehead, modern outfit with a knack for 80s’inspired new-wave goodness. For us, lovers of everything retro, their music is a triumph. They really seem to embody an aesthetic that appeared lost, channelling 40 years of British rock and pop prowess.

Emerging from Glasgow, the talented outfit unveils their first single of the year, ‘Coming Alive’. In it, the keen listener will admire lead singer Martin Jenkins’ precise and dynamic vocals, reminding us of a young Tony Hadley, among others. Of course, you can also observe a certain alt-rock quality in Lonehead’s output: it’s an ever-changing blend of influences that keeps the band rolling.

You might ask, does their music make sense in 2023? Well, it’s not so much about making sense, as it is about celebrating new wave history, catering to a certain audience, and perhaps trying to innovate the current music landscape by looking at the past. For us, listening to Lonehead is a welcome refuge into known territories, as we look at their recognizable style with pride and nostalgia.

Produced by Scottish producer Stuart McCredie, ‘Coming Alive’ also anticipates an upcoming album. We’ll look out for it.
