Libby Johnston Pays a Loving Tribute to Her Mother in ‘Ingram Road’

The keen reader might remember Libby Johnston from an interview we did with her last year. Originally from New Zealand, the talented songstress made the move to the US in 2018, sparking a period of personal growth and musical exploration that’s now come to a glorious fruition. ‘Ingram Road’ is the perfect evidence of that. Released on Mother’s Day, the track pays a heartfelt tribute to Johnston’s mother and family, especially poignant given how far away from them Libby has been in the last few years.

From a sonic standpoint, ‘Ingram Road is everything we would have wanted it to be. Soothing, evocative and elegant, the record doesn’t need a fancy production or an anthemic hook, being entirely propped up by Johnson’s honest, vivid lyricism. Her vocals are truly incredible; luscious, cathartic and rather angelic, Libby’s hazy tone invites us into a listening experience that’s personal, introspective and truly meaningful. Santino Cardinale and Wolfgang Pander are on production duties, although the vocals were engineered by the artist herself.

Johnston explains the inspiration behind the song: “This song was written as a gift for my mum on Mother’s Day. Its inception and creation were kept a secret from her until the week before, when I announced the song on social media. I hope this song resonates with people as they celebrate their mothers and mother figures, and can take a moment to reflect on how special their relationships are, and how powerful their unconditional love is.”
