It was only a matter of time before Lazywall’s return. The Moroccan band has caused quite a stir in recent years, unveiling a good amount of hard-hitting alt-rock and punk-infused records with striking Arabic lyricism. Firmly committed to their own unique artistic space, the group champions a wholesome sonic formula, one that’s tinged with oriental melodies, Arabic time signatures and a wealth of meaningful topics, ranging from climate change to social injustice and corruption.
In a way, the project is impressively honest and pure; refraining from pursuing commercial trends and hyped-up fads, Lazywall instead deliver heightened musicianship with a wealth of lyrical nuance, something that makes the listening experience particularly relevant and relatable, especially if you speak Arabic. Brothers Nao, Youssef and Monz are the talented humans behind the project, also the ones behind their latest EP ‘Tighaline’.
Featuring four vivid, wholesome alt-rock pieces, the EP oscillates between furious distortions and smoother melodic moments, creating a bittersweet listening experience that’s a perfect match for their jagged songwriting. As Lazywall explain: “We don’t talk about politics because we don’t care. We don’t talk about religion because it’s a personal thing. But singing about that underage girl who was forced to marry her rapist is tough in any language.”
