We absolutely adore seeing creatives explore the unconventional, using their free will to embrace artistic expression with the utmost fierceness. That’s exactly what KOLETT did. Hailing from Budapest, the talented producer and visionary debuted earlier this year with ‘Tunnels’, a piece that embarks into gloomy and haunting ambient territories, cryptic lyrical matter, and noisy soundscapes. The record features field recordings captured in places where KOLETT would often be found. For instance, a subway underpass, an element that gives the record a distinct otherworldly quality.
In truth, this is not KOLETT’s first release ever. You see, she was actively making music twenty years ago, but then decided to stop, giving in to a lack of confidence and unmanaged creative pressure. This is a very common occurrence between artists: after all, sharing one’s art with the wider world requires vulnerability and courage. Reading about similar experiences, KOLETT found the courage to start releasing music again.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the piece, she explains: “I wasn’t directly inspired by any specific artist’s sound for this release. The real turning point was an event where I listened to a conversation between other musicians about their creative struggles. Hearing them open up about their doubts made me realise that everyone experiences writer’s block. It gave me the encouragement I needed to overcome my own blocks, and that’s how this song was born.”
