Operating out of London, Alex Comaish has become a bit of a positive force in the indie-pop underground scene. His approach is playfully authentic; he does not hide behind complex lyrical imagery or a formulaic aural profile, instead embracing an uplifting, relatable and catchy character, all qualities that have gained him a fair amount of industry attention over the past few years. ‘The Cliches are Adept’ is the perfect evidence of that.
In it, we are called to confront Comaish’s elegant and carefree songwriting, a joyful reflection on the relatability of clichés, here delivered with unmatched self-awareness and comedic restraint. ‘Cliches are Adept’ is the sort of record that grows on you, listen after listen. If on the surface the listener might judge it as a vanilla indie cut, a closer look reveals the silent genius of Alex’s literary constructs.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the single, Comaish explains: “This song has been in my set list for as long as I’ve been playing live. It has always been an old reliable opener, the first song that friends shouted at the top of their lungs with me. I feel like we finally did justice to a song that’s taken me a long way, and it’s a fitting gift to the friends/fans that got here early to put it on the EP before turning my attention to newer things.” There’s an EP in the works, and it’s coming soon. Stay tuned!
