We stand by our words: the Jacksonville-based creative crafts music that oozes with purpose and introspection. ‘Someday Got Away’ confirms our suspicions. Marking Driscoll’s latest offering, the track is once again a triumph of brooding acoustic matter and philosophy-coded songwriting.
Comparing the two records, patterns start to emerge. Driscoll enjoys layering deep and fragrant guitar arpeggios over his own equally moody and deep vocal tone. The acoustic guitar is performed with calm and tenderness, leaving the notes breathe between each other. The resulting listening experience is cathartic and evocative, a slice of alt-folk magic delivered with masterful restraint. ‘Someday Got Away’ was written with artist and co-writer Moira Chicilo of Vancouver, British Columbia, at an Andrea Stolpe songwriting workshop on a hilltop just outside of Nashville in 2023. It was then recorded at Jump Studios in Jacksonville, Florida.
