James Bambu Returns with Eclectic Cut ‘Bossa Nova’

James Bambu’s ‘Bossa Nova’ marks another striking example of the project’s ‘musically fluid’ quality, a fine balance and everlasting tension between tradition and futurism.

Judging by the 200k streams on ‘Antidote’, we’d say that James Bambu has struck a chord with his audience. Operating out of Brooklyn, the talented artist has developed an aural space that’s both kinetic and evocative, often oscillating between R&B and hip-hop, as well as modern dance influences. ‘Bossa Nova’ is the perfect evidence of that, a track that dramatically expands the reach and depth of Bambu’s offering.

Produced by Hensley.Sg, the piece boasts a highly eclectic and contemporary artistic formula, one that draws inspiration from his Southern roots (Atlanta and Miami Bass in particular) and embraces an electrifying New York-focused imprint such as Jersey Club. The result is a hypnotic, fast-paced and bouncy anthem, a slice of uplifting energy crowned by James Bambu’s soulful and hypnotic vocal tone. It’s another striking example of the project’s ‘musically fluid’ quality, a fine balance and everlasting tension between tradition and futurism.

Delving deeper into the lyrical and personal ethos that propels the record, Bambu explains: “I’m from the south, and I’ve been in New York for a long time now, so it’s funny to me that I haven’t yet had a song that speaks to my experiences with being immersed in club culture in New York, but also references and is influenced by southern lyricism. I grew up in Atlanta with Trap Music and Atlanta Bass, so sometimes when there’s a heavy bassline, like with Jersey Club, I tend to naturally dive into more old school ideas sonically, so I love that this is how this song came about.”
