Active since 2023, Baltimore-based outfit Night Walks have been rather parsimonious with their releases so far. Dropping one or two singles per year, the American rockers have slowly made their way onto a long-length offering, one that welcomes the project as a mature reality in the global music landscape. ‘Remember the Dawn’ is the album in question, a nine-track record that collects past singles and brand new pieces.
In it, we find an eclectic and partly nostalgic look into a variety of rock-flavoured subgenres, from the gritty, stomping echoes of heartland rock to more expansive and evocative hints of psychedelia, passing through a relatable pop-leaning sheen. Such a formula is mirrored in Night Walks’ spacious and vibrant instrumental flavouring, ranging from fuzzy guitar tones to retro Hammond tones and virtuoso synth solos. In fact, after exploring ‘Remember the Dawn’ in its entirety, we are more and more convinced that calling it a rock record is very reductive.
It’s an ever-evolving, brooding package, one that takes winning cues from a multitude of influences. Celebrating the journey that took them to their new album, Night Walks explain: “‘Remember the Dawn’ is our statement of purpose. In the 2 years since we recorded our first track for it (Midnight Avenue), we’ve transformed into a truly collaborative project – sharing both songwriting and singing duties between David, Shawn, and Sam. We’ve honed in on a sound and style that is original and uniquely our own. It has been a long time coming for us, but we’re incredibly proud of the final product and excited to share it with the world.”
