There’s something intoxicating about new beginnings. It’s a chance of reinvention, a chance to uncover a newly-found creative spark. Stolen Days represents all of that, marking a new chapter in the artistic journey of Dub Sonata and The Kickdrums. Both established maker in their own right, the pair emerges from a surprisingly and partly unexpected clash of styles and genres. You’ve got your singer-songwriter, indie-flavoured guitar matter (The Kickdrums) and your hip-hop-esque, beat-based flair (Dub Sonata).

In that sense, ‘Butterfly’ can be seen as the musical big bang that gives birth to the entire project, a debut single that doesn’t disappoint and that illustrates perfectly the enlightened compromise that carries Dub Sonata and The Kickdrums into trip-hop territories. Packed with hypnotic melodies and tender tones, the track walks the fine line between evocative lyricism and kinetic production.

Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the record, the duo explain: “We tried our best to push each other creatively on Butterfly, using our individual production styles to come up with something unique. The lyrics about change resonate with both of us a lot.” The result is an eclectic amalgamation of moods and influences that feels like a breath of fresh air, certainly a milestone in the career of both The Kickdrums and Dub Sonata.
