Cody Piper Returns with Tender, Lovable Piece ‘Ode to a Lost Love’

We were busy writing about Cody Piper just over a month ago, celebrating ‘Be Quiet’ as “a nugget of electrifying prowess and lyrical relatability that’s hard to ignore”. The Pittsburgh-based creative is now back with another gem, ‘Ode to a Lost Love’, a wonderfully imaginative and tender tune that’s a joy to listen to. Steeped in nuanced literary value and introspective goodness, the song provides a cathartic listening experience, one that’s both nostalgic and hopeful.

A pattern seems to emerge; everything we have heard from Piper so far is incredibly well-recorded and masterfully performed, a quality that goes a long way in ensuring the project’s heartwarming, transformative character. Arrangements are soothing and elegant, with a tapestry of piano-driven warmth and eclectic pop elements perfectly circling Piper’s smooth, velvety vocals, here delivered with enhanced care and heightened charisma. The result is a compassionate aural embrace that’s rather rare in our gloomy reality.

What’s more, ‘Ode to a Lost Love’ features a standout bassline performed by Jake Epstein (also known as Jakers). The part instantly caught our attention, and it really supercharges the whole record, giving it a virtuoso, fusion-flavoured twist. Speaking about the inspiration behind the lyricism, Piper explains: “It’s about the realisation that a love is fading, and the quiet, almost reluctant acceptance of that.”
