City Island Celebrates Love in Motown-Inspired Gem ‘Shining Light’

Crafting meaningful music while keeping it simple: that’s a hard thing to do. NYC pop outfit City Island seems to have cracked the code, showcasing a relatable and uplifting lyrical style that instantly puts a smile on the listener’s face. They do so by working with simple sonic matter, at least on the surface. Navigating classic pop matter, the duo channels notable references as the basis of their friendly storytelling. ‘Shining Light’ is the project’s latest single, a further step into the release of a bigger EP coming later this year.

A feel-good, groovy gem, ‘Shining Light’ is a celebration of the classic Soul and Motown style, here working perfectly with City Island’s poignant and evocative vocals. Lyrically, we are staying true to Motown themes, with the song being an anthemic celebration of love. Seeing what they are capable of, we have full confidence in Nick and Josh, the lifelong friends and creators of the project.

Inspired by the likes of Bruno Mars, Durand Jones, Coldplay, and Hozier, the pair is a fresh offering on the industry landscape, also thanks to their triumphal use of classic melodies and vocal harmonies. Speaking of vocals, the two American talents are true RnB powerhouses: always a pleasure to listen to.
