Calico Sun Announces New Album + Dreamy Single ‘Fields’

In ‘Fields’, Calico Sun weaves in and out of psychedelic influences and dreamy indie tones. The final result is sublime and ethereal, the perfect match for our ‘Mesmerized’ ethos.

There’s a lot we appreciate about Calico Sun. Yet, what impressed us the most was the laid-back and patient approach he took towards his creative workflow. You see, a record like ‘Fields’, as well as the wider upcoming album ‘Cosmic Revelations’, wasn’t built in a day. Rather, it took Calico Sun five years of intimate writing and production. Working from his Connecticut home studio (The Chalet), multi-instrumentalist Sam Bahman used the time at his disposal to slow down and fully understand the record he wanted to make. ‘Fields’ is the perfect evidence of that.

To note, the accompanying video follows the same ethos, featuring footage filmed across three seasons; that marks the whole project as a byproduct of purposeful artistry and creative practice. In ‘Fields’, Calico Sun embraces a like-minded aural character, weaving in and out of psychedelic influences and dreamy indie tones. The final result is sublime and ethereal, a feverish, hypnotic piece that sounds bittersweet and nostalgic, but that also invites a certain peace and escapism.

Bahman’s vocals are the perfect match for such an expansive and eclectic sonic picture. They are on this occasion wrapped in a retro sheen and, more often than not, bundled in harmonic clusters. Synths and guitars complete the production palette. Delving deeper into the single, Calico Sun explains: “It explores the slow realisation that growth often happens quietly.”
