Matt Deangelis Returns with Purposeful Single ‘Helpless To The Fire’

Marking’s Deangelis’ latest effort, ‘Helpless To The Fire’ blends intensely purposeful songwriting with an epic and evocative pro-rock production, a joy to listen to.

The keen reader might remember Matt Deangelis from a feature we published earlier this year, praising ‘In This World’ as a” progressive, soulful ballad performed with gusto and elegant allure”. We stand by our words: in fact, such a description could also serve as a general manifesto for the entire project, as the follow-up single ‘Helpless To The Fire’ clearly showcases. Marking’s Deangelis’ latest effort, the new track blends intensely purposeful songwriting with an epic and evocative pro-rock production, a joy to listen to.

Steeped in nostalgic melodism and elegant arrangements, Matt’s vocals feel hypnotic and epic, gently guiding listeners towards a higher truth. ‘Helpless To The Fire’ shares a fierce, uplifting character, yet one that retains a highly luscious flair, certainly anthemic and hypnotic. Another wonderful record from the American troubadour.

Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the record, Deangelis explains: “This is a song written about the idea that in the end, every material possession we own will no longer exist, and we will only have God to turn to. We are all helpless to an impending fire that will destroy the evil in the world in time. We all have a limited amount of time on Earth, so I feel that we should focus less on what we can hold in our hands, and more on what we can’t necessarily see.” Someone, somewhere, will no doubt relate to Matt’s meaningful message.
