We have come to know Beatdenker as an elite creative, constantly pushing electronic music’s boundaries with committed and meaningful flair. Whether collaborating with others or solo, the German creative has so far left a lasting mark on the leftfield and experimental scene. It’s not a popular scene, by any means, yet whoever has been lucky enough to dip their toes in the project’s blessed aural waters will certainly find them cathartic and futuristic. Cue ‘Future Dance Steps’, Beatdenker’s latest work.
It’s not your typical album; we like to conceptualise it as a sonic stream of consciousness, a constant reminder of how a sound can be mangled in a thousand different ways, echoing the aleatory and chaotic nature of life itself. Crafted as a continuous live set, ‘Future Dance Steps’ can also be considered a snapshot of Beatdenker’s heightened inspiration, with the Berlin-based talent making ample use of digital-sounding beats, glitches, distortions, and haunting noises. As he likes to describe it: “an improvised set with 21 inserts/vibes in between”.
Originally recorded as a bedroom live session in December 2023, ‘Future Dance Steps’ is now given the attention it deserves. Whatever the listener makes of it, it’s clear that it’s a highly personal affair; A daring, imaginative dive into Beatdenker’s striking, alternative musical universe. Delving deeper into the record, he explains: “Everything is live through finger drumming, except the 21 interruptions which are played with guitar, fx, some virtual synths, and some software effects. In the end, I cut everything and mastered it.”
