A holistic creative, Alma Owren’s artistry appears to be delicate and cathartic, yet deeply informed in limitless musicianship and inspired lyricism. A violinist, guitarist, producer and gifted songwriter, the young Norwegian talent approaches her work with a global perspective, crafting striking pieces that sound cinematic and dreamy, meaningful and reflective.
‘under the surface’ is the perfect example of that. The title track from the homonym EP, the single is a convincing, intense example of what we can expect from Owren. Introduced by an evocative and poignant piano, the song then blooms into an avant-garde, electronic piece oscillating between alt-folk and dream pop influences. Alma’s vocals are gentle and precise, the perfect match for such a magical atmosphere.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, Owren explains: “I have found strength in being vulnerable and honest. Through working on this EP, I have let go of the fear of being judged or misunderstood. Instead, I’ve found a new kind of peace—the ability to trust myself for who I truly am.”
