Yet, the wait is about to come to an end, with the UK-based rapper and producer set for a glorious return later this year. ‘SUPER VILLAIN’ is the track in question, a piece that’s been placed under the moniker Okay The Duo, the creative endeavour he runs with his sister. We had the chance to listen to a preview of the track, and we can tell you it sounds massive! Bold and fierce, yet also atmospheric and cinematic.
Boasting tens of thousands of fans across social media and streaming services, OXLEE looks to the future with confidence and hunger; he’s ready to conquer what he’s always been fighting for. We reckon it won’t be long till the wider public wise up to him and Okay The Duo. A mentorship from Grammy-winning songwriter Ant Clemons and a series of writing sessions in Los Angeles seem to confirm our suspicions.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels his upcoming single ‘SUPER VILLAIN’, OXLEE explains: “This song feels like me going back to my roots as an artist. When I moved back to London from Australia, I felt like an outsider in my own home, like people didn’t really accept me for who I was. That pushed me into a different mindset where I stopped trying to play nice and decided I was going to make things happen for myself, no matter what. I was chasing my dreams again, but this time with a chip on my shoulder. ‘Super Villain’ came from that energy, it’s about taking what’s mine and not letting anyone stand in my way.”
