Prayukta Paudel Debuts with Evocative Pop Jewel ‘World So Unknown’

Written and recorded by Prayukta Paudel herself, ‘World So Unknown’ marks the start of a potentially triumphant musical journey, one that’s heavily skewed towards meaningful songwriting and functional simplicity.

‘World So Unknown’ is an impressively good effort for a debut release, especially when taking into account that it was largely a DIY endeavour. Written and recorded by Prayukta Paudel herself, the single marks the start of a potentially triumphant musical journey, one that’s heavily skewed towards meaningful songwriting and functional simplicity. Finding a worthy refuge in tender pop territories, the New Zealand-based songstress develops a uniquely placed sonic brand, one that’s equally elegant and heartwarming as it is brooding and honest.

The listening experience around ‘World So Unknown’ is rather hypnotic and dreamy. Combining ballad-coded pop with hints of folk-like haziness, the record builds an evocative aural picture, one that feels melancholic and nostalgic, but also weirdly comforting and raw. Inspired by the likes of Billie Eilish and Lorde, among others, Paudel seems to have stumbled upon authentic artistry, a currency that’s quite rare these days. Looking forward to hearing more.

Delving deeper into the introspective ethos that propels the record, Paudel explains: “This song came from a time when I felt overwhelmed by my own thoughts and emotions. Living in a fast-moving, digital world made everything feel confusing and distant, like I was constantly searching for something I couldn’t fully understand.” We feel as though Prayukta’s nuanced lyricism summarises what a lot of young adults are feeling today, a towering uncertainty that makes the world slightly unbearable. Luckily, art comes to the rescue.
