We have been enjoying a surprising number of submissions from Wales recently. The whole region is having a bit of an artistic wake-up, as FreeFall. eloquently showcase. Hailing from Swansea, the talented, roaring outfit navigates the treacherous and wide territories between post-punk and alt-rock, ending on a sonic formula that’s hard-hitting, gritty and rather heavy, yet packed with digestible melodies and a surprising amount of anthemic, stadium-ready lyricism.
‘Fire’ is the project’s debut EP. Featuring five striking pieces, the record marks a welcome milestone for the Welsh rockers. Having collected thousands of streams across platforms and a small but dedicated audience, FreeFall. are uniquely placed to be tipped for national recognition. We’d argue that their music is the perfect blend of energy, charisma and meaningful songwriting, all qualities that fit our chaotic times. We are particularly drawn to the group’s jagged, smoky vocals, playfully contrasting with the overall eclectic guitar-laden arrangements.
Title track ‘Fire’ opens the EP with a certain funky eagerness, aiding playful grooves that slowly explode into a fierce, all-out chorus. ‘Deano’ eloquently follows up with a bright, positive character, something that’s further accentuated by a healthy saxophone addition. From here on, anything is possible, and we’d push keen listeners to find out for themselves. Freefall. are not just a rock band. They are much more.
