‘Borrowed Time’ by Plastic Soldiers is a Nostalgic, Heartwarming Jewel

There’s something incredibly wholesome about Plastic Soldiers. Perhaps it’s because of their nostalgic take on power-pop and classic rock, all blended into a heartwarming and relatable aural formula. Or, it could be because of the project’s foundational quality: being a father-son duo. That doesn’t happen often, with Bill and Todd Mecaughey showcasing that belonging to a different generation is never an obstacle for music-making.

‘Borrowed Time’ is Plastic Soldiers’ latest album, released earlier this year to a healthy amount of positive reviews. Yet, there’s a lot to discover in it; it’s a record that needs to be enjoyed daily, letting the duo’s vibrant vocals and acoustic vibes bring a slice of hope and charisma to an otherwise jagged and problematic reality. In a way, ‘Borrowed Time’ is a time capsule, with its listening experience enriched by a flurry of elegant guitars and rich harmonies.

Delving deeper into the record, Plastic Soldiers explain: “There’s no Plastic Soldiers without family at the heart of it. This record is infused with personal history; every chord and lyric carries a piece of our lives. We spent years shaping these songs, paying attention to every detail in the studio. Mastering it at Abbey Road was the culmination of all that effort, a dream realised for us both.”
