It’s been a while since we hosted Wild Horse on our pages. We were writing about the Brighton-based outfit just over a year ago, describing their signature sound as “eclectic, electronic-inspired indie pop with sharp, groovy guitars and punchy rhythms.” We stand by our words while also acknowledging the unmistakable growth of the project. Formed by longstanding members Ed Barnes, Jack Baldwin, and Henry Baldwin, Wild Horse have now expanded to include Jade Snowdon on keys and violin.
Such an addition helps give the band a more evocative and spacious flair, especially when it comes to textures and harmonic goodness. ‘Overthinking’ is the perfect example of that. Wild Horse’s latest single, the track finds its unique sonic identity in a slow-paced blend of mellow indie grooves and catchy pop melodies, the perfect match for the romantic-driven lyricism, here delivered by Baldwin’s malleable, towering vocals.
Produced by Gary Stevenson, ‘Overthinking’ feels rather timeless; part modern and part nostalgic, it appears as though the song might appeal to a wide audience. Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Wild Horse explain: “It’s a heartfelt song capturing the excitement, uncertainty, and hope that come with navigating a new romantic connection.”
