Wes Coeur and ParanoidDrops Team Up on ‘Runway Four’

It’s not our first encounter with Wes Coeur. Previously described by Mesmerized as “all-encompassing and deeply absorbing”, the Australian creative champions an imaginative, vintage-flavoured and eclectic artistry, making for quirky, groovy pieces with a high amount of elegance and swag. ‘Runway Four’ is the latest effort by the Melbourne-based artist. Teaming up with fellow talent ParanoidDrops, Wes Coeur pens a truly magnificent album, a dynamic, futuristic body of work packed with bubbly R&B and funk nuggets.

Yet, the record’s wide reference pool doesn’t stop there, with a great deal of electronic goodness being put into it. Bombastic, uplifting synth tones, vocoder-laden vocals and potent drum machines help ‘Runway Four’ wrap the listeners with a seemingly futuristic artistic universe, reminiscent of Bruno Mars, but also of the leftfield imagination of Flying Lotus, among others. Wes Coeur’s stunning vocals are a perfect match for such intense aural energy.

‘FUNK ASS’ is perhaps one of our favourite episodes on the record: balanced between 80s AOR and Jackson-esque charisma, the track blends distorted guitars with robotic tones and vocals. Overall, it’s rather hard to describe ‘Runway Four’ in literary form. It is such a sui generis record to deserve your utmost attention. It simply needs to be experienced to be understood. Don’t take our word for it – find out for yourself!
