Truly embodying the spirit of lo-fi indie, trainboy hails from London with one of the most wholesome and low-res flair we have ever heard. Exuberant, yet decadent, the project bathes in gritty guitars and magnetic vocals, all then wrapped in personal storytelling and heartwarming fuzziness. Behind such a striking ethos, we find British musician and songwriter trainboy. Known by day as Dave Macleod, the talented indie outfit takes inspiration from a variety of sources, be it Lou Reed’s classic charisma or English Teacher’s roaring energy.
Whichever way you look at it, it’s hard to remain neutral to ‘Stay Inside’. Marking trainboy’s latest EP, the record packs six pieces with a rather casual and friendly delivery, something that creates a particularly comfy link between the EP and the listeners… It’s almost intimate, a way for trainboy to connect with each listener deeply. The lyricism is also quite mysterious and ambiguous, adding a layer of secrecy to an already fringe-lenient work.
Delving deeper into their influences, trainboy explain: “Velvets, Teenage Fanclub, Lemonheads, DIIV, Wet Leg, English Teacher, Orange Juice, New Order, Lou Reed, all the most brilliant indie artists from the 1980s through to the 2020s put in a food blender and mixed into a fantastic, tasty soup”. For anyone in London, trainboy are set to perform on November 14th at Tufnell Park Dome.
