We last heard of Tony & The Kiki back in 2022, with ‘Dirty Secrets’ exploring the group’s softer, more reflective side. The project’s long hiatus appears to now be over, with the New York City-based kaleidoscopic outfit returning in full force and newly-found fierceness. Their unapologetic charisma speaks for itself; coupled with Tony & The Kiki’s euphoric sonic character, it results into a slice of vintage-flavoured glam rock, disco-driven goodness. ‘Keep Shinin’ On’ is the strongest evidence of that.
Marking Tony & The Kiki’s comeback single, the record feels incredibly striking and hard-hitting, with a punchy, energetic arrangement packed with bright tones, polite guitar distortions and a driving drum beat. Lead singer and glam shaman Anthony Alfaro does a great job on vocal duties, with their vocals instantly commanding the listeners’ attention. Such a potent aural livery perfectly matches the lyrical charge, with the American group penning an empowering, carefree anthem for the Queer community.
As Alfaro explains: “This one’s for all the girlies, gays, and theys stuck doom-scrolling and feeling helpless. It’s an alarm bell to rise up and SHINE. Forget what your family, classmates, or society think. Follow your inner knowing and don’t dim your light for no bitch ever! This track is pure ‘you go girl!’ energy in musical form.”
