Thy Veils Shares Dreamy and Ethereal Masterpiece ‘Upstream’

There was one specific artist that jumped into my mind, upon approaching ‘Upstream’. I won’t say who it is yet, instead, I will proceed to shed some light on the authors of this great record. Romanian ambient-electronica outfit Thy Veils. Born out of the early experimental scene in the 90s, the project has slowly evolved from obscure, rarefied instrumental pieces to more dreamy and ethereal vocal compositions, shifting their focus while staying true to their core aesthetic: sonic flotation, the blurring of the space and time continuum.

‘Upstream’, Thy Veils’ latest effort, embodies everything they are today: a classy, cinematic and chillout band, sharing music that’s source of escapism, a welcome refugee from the everyday chaos. Going back to my initial sentence, ‘Upstream’ contains a strong reference to Norwegian electro-jazz pioneer Nils Petter Molvær, especially when it comes to the frequent trumpet melodies. Of course, Thy Veils creates their own unique sonic scape, eventually reaching a sound and a style that’s pretty unique, a testament to their musical genius, still able to express themselves after many successful years.

The group’s mesmerising vocals positively inform ‘Upstream’, resulting in an irresistible tune that blurs the boundaries between trip-hop, electronica and pop. The record is taken from the Romanian talents’ forthcoming album ‘Next Forever’.
