The Wren Asks Us To Love Ourselves in Cinematic Gem ‘please don’t joke about dying’

As we were approaching this article, we had ‘please don’t joke about dying’ on a loop… we could not get enough. While the lyrical matter is complex and slightly dark, the musical formula is mellow and nostalgic, wrapping the listeners into an emotional, poignant hug. The Wren’s vocals are the perfect companion for such a refined and acoustic instrumental. Boasting a warm and controlled tone, full of nuances, the Californian talent complements her guitar the best way, later joined by a cinematic, heartwrenching strings section.

Emerging from Los Angeles, gifted singer-songwriter The Wren introduces herself to music in her formative years, joining the USC Thornton School of Music while earning her degree from the School of Cinematic arts. Her musical prowess, together with her epic and movie-like vibe, can be found greatly in debut effort ‘please don’t joke about dying’.

As we declared in the initial paragraph, the record is an absolute masterpiece. If her debut is that good, we cannot imagine what will come next. What’s certain, is that The Wren is a worthy addition to our favourite artists, and a breath of fresh air in an over-charged, standardised music scene.

Produced by Ashley Fulton with strings composed by Erika Poh and played by Olena Kaspersky, ‘please don’t joke about dying’ “is an intimate plea to a person who doesn’t know how loved they are. Life is too short not to tell the people in your life that you love them. I hope that listeners feel the same way too.”
