The Vanities Gear Up for a Brand New Release with ‘Private Army’

Emerging from Cardiff, The Vanities are not your typical rock band. Instead, they borrow from the new wave and IOR tradition to deliver a pompous, epic and poignant sound, heavily tipped in favour of lyrical meaningfulness and intense imagery. Take for instance the group’s upcoming effort, ‘Private Army’. An emotional anthem, the track is drenched in orchestral vibes and luscious vocal harmonies, creating a sonic landscape more akin to a mature popstar than a band. Leaving 80s tropes behind, The Vanities move into unexpected territories, making their material more relatable and – potentially – timeless.

Such passionate sound matter fits the lyrical theme perfectly: in ‘Private Army’, The Vanities explores the foolishness of the modern world, lost between wars and regional conflicts. The track is a desperate and heartfelt call towards reason, peace and understanding. In a world where more and more individuals seek shelter in extreme ideologies, ‘Private Army’ motivates us all to embrace our enemy and find common ground.

But that’s not all. The Vanities will also be playing a small number of select “unplugged” shows in support of the release, including two dates with Peter Cox of 80s icons Go West at Cardiff’s Acapela Studio on 16th and 17th May 2023. This is a rare opportunity to see an up-and-coming band in an intimate setting and is not to be missed.
